The 2 kinds of people

"There are 2 kinds of people in this world. One who have read Ayn Rand and the ones who have not", remarked the Humanities department lecturer in my first year in IITR. (am unable to recall his name actually he left the institute in 2003 i think). These kinds of remarks always used to evoke a rebellious response from me back then.'These high headed, self proclaimed high thinking (and highly read) people always know how to draw a line between those who know what they know and others', or so i thought at that point of time.

I quickly stood up and said "Sir, but why do u choose to differentiate between people who have read a particular writer and the others who have not? I can create a similar separation between people who know what I know and others who do not e.g. people who know about Punjabi culture and others who do not or for that matter people who understand Rocket science and others who do not. Am I right in that?". The teacher, however, then tried to convince me of his point with some philosophical explanations till the class finished.

At that time, I had never read a single book . When I started reading later, however, I really felt that no matter how many separations u make, the one universal separation which would work is "The one's who have read books and others who have not". Reading surely made me wiser and gave me a gift of thinking from different view points. And then i also realised the true meaning of what the teacher actually wanted to convey.

Now, I also feel that even my point was correct at that time. Everyone should be able to differentiate himself from others because of his qualities or abilities. Surely, it does give one self confidence provided one understands the true meaning of those qualities and is capable enough to make the differentiation.

To sum up i now feel "There are two kinds of people: those who think there are two kinds of people, and those who think it's not that simple."

first of all, congrats! dude.
So, u finally wrote something and that too a good piece.
abt article:
very innovative.
i really liked the topic & the way u presented it.
now comes the best part: the flow. article was very smooth. well written.
reading books is a good habit and it definitely gives a new, better and clearer perspective to life.
last lines are good and this line keeps the reader ticking even after reading the article.

few days back, i also divided this world in to 3. here it goes: * This world is divided into 4 types of people. First : one who wears cap and loves Himesh, second : one who doesn't wears cap and hates Himesh and then the third : one who are still wondering "what the fuck has happened to this world? Why is world divided into two because of Himesh?". And then the forth group : who else will be there? Me and just me.

just keep blogging.
Cheers!

and jassi ur differentiation on basis of himesh into 3(or 4?) reminds me of an old differentiation: There are 3 kinds of people in this world: 1 who know how to count and others who don't ;)
